On behalf of the German Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG - WSA) in Koblenz, nature-consult provided a thematic vegetation mapping of reed and adjacent vegetation along the lower and upper river Elbe (ca. 10,000 ha). For the analysis high resolution aerial imagery and laser scan data from 2006 were used.

Applied method - procedure:

1. Pre-processing of aerial imagery, laser scan data etc.
2. A priori categorization of the area and creating analysis masks
3. Vegetation classification (remote sensing)
4. Digital vegetation post-processing
5. Necessary survey and verification in the field
6. Final digital review and map production
