Cooperation to produce the BK50 of Lower Saxony

The State Authority for Mining, Energy and Geology (LBEG) plans a revision of the BK50 (soil map 1:50.000) of the East Friesian islands. Bases are evaluations of geological and soil maps, evaluations of external data and exemplary field surveys. For the area of the East Friesian islands only for Borkum a soil map is available from the LBEG.

In the year 2004 nature-consult accomplished a vegetation mapping of the FFH-Lebensraumtypen and supplementing TMAP vegetation units (Trilateral Monitoring and Assessment Program) and/or biotope types for the entire terrestrial area of the national park.

This current vegetation map (TMAP types) is now evaluated by nature-consult in the context of the review of the BK50. From vegetation units detailed information about soil parameters are derived and delivered to the LBEG as a complete GIS project of the total mapping using a translation key.

According to the statement of the LBEG (NLfB 1997) "The occuring dune vegetation is strongly associated with the soil" the project showed that location and spreading suit clearly, e.g. the mapped damp vegetation and the  soil type "Gley".
